Artwork of the Day

One of the things I appreciate is Artwork of the Day from the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The artwork featured for Thursday March 03, 2011 was a Terracotta Megarian Bowl, circa 165-100 BC.

Wish I knew its story; how it was made, how it was used, how it survived, how it was found. It’s ancient. It’s not very big: 3 1/16″ high (7.8 cm) and 4 3/4″ (12 cm) in diameter. Since it’s so small, do you think it was made by a first grader as a gift to her mother? No, probably not.
