Where is a police officer when you need one? How many times have you said or heard that? I certainly have said it.
I’m here to tell you that sometimes, the police are exactly where they need to be, at exactly the right time.
One day (or, once upon a time, depending on how you like your stories to start), my walking partner (TS) and I were just finishing up our morning walk. We waited at the traffic light to cross the 6-lane street in front of our building. (Three lanes going west, three lanes going east.)
Our light turned green and the walk sign was on. We started crossing the street. There was a car at the intersection with its blinker on, waiting for us to clear the west-bound lanes in the crosswalk so it could turn left.
Not so for a west-bound pickup truck.
As TS and I got to the middle west-bound lane (lane 2 of 6), a pickup truck ran the red light in the right-hand lane (lane 1), and missed running us over by a couple of feet. Whoa! Okay, a couple of feet was enough for us to be safe and we were glad of it, but a couple of feet was way too close.
And that car that was patiently waiting for us to clear the crosswalk? Turns out it was an unmarked police car. As soon as that pickup sped by us in the crosswalk, the police officer turned on his lights and took off after that pickup truck. The pickup driver did the smart thing and turned right at the next corner, pulling over for the police officer.
So sometimes, the police are exactly where they need to be, at exactly the right time!
